The MA in Slavic Languages and Culture is run by the Slavic Department at Leiden in co-operation with the University of Amsterdam. Each university offers differing specialisations, with Leiden concentrating on Slavic linguistics and offering optional courses in Russian Studies and Armenian, Albanian and Baltic languages. As well as a diverse array of courses, you will have access to Leiden’s world-renowned library collection of East-European Law.
The study of Slavic languages and cultures in Leiden date back to 1913. The academic staff has a very strong international reputation in teaching and research.

Specialisations
The MA in Slavic languages and cultures offers the choice of three specialisations:
- Slavic Linguistics consists of four tracks, three of which are offered in Leiden, one in Amsterdam. Each year four different courses are offered in the range of historic and contemporary linguistics.
- Slavic Literature and Culture consists of four tracks, three of which are offered in Amsterdam, and one in Leiden. Within this specialisation you will focus on the study of textual sources from different eras of Slavic literature, and the well-known Slavic theories on literature, like the Russian Formalism, and Structuralism.
- Slavic Linguistics and Literature and Culture is a combination of the two other specialisations
