The specialisation in Ancient History of the Research Master’s in History offers a wide-ranging overview of the history of the Greek and Roman period, with a focus on the history of the mentality and social and economic history in the period 400 B.C. – 400 A.D. You will cover an array of subjects, including:
- Roman social history
- Acculturation and romanisation theory
- Graeco-Roman religion
- The rise of Christianity
Entry requirements
- A BA degree or its equivalent, with a relevant specialisation and excellent grades
- The prime requirement is for a proven affinity with and ability for scholarly research. This may be demonstrated, for example, by an average mark of at least 7.5, and a grade for the BA thesis of 8 or higher.
- All applicants need to enclose two letters of recommendation from academic staff members with their application.
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO-diploma
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
