The research track offers the student the opportunity to spend two full years on training and specialisation to become an independent and creative scientist. The MSc students will become a member and colleague in one of the research groups in the LIC. The student will develop her/his individual MSc programme together with the mentor. The majority of the students with an MSc in Chemistry research will continue their career in a PhD position.
Career
The aim of this specialisation is to train you as an independent scientist, and to develop the necessary skills and proficiency to advance your career.
After completing the MSc Chemistry programme, you have a broad array of career prospects. The master’s degree is a stepping-stone for those graduates with the aspiration to pursue a PhD degree. Students with a desire to apply their knowledge of chemistry outside the university, have good job possibilities in R&D departments in industry, business, public utility companies, teaching, consultancy and government bodies. Many students attain higher management positions. The Leiden Institute of Chemistry is located within the largest Bioscience Park within the Netherlands where thre are ample job opportunities.
