This track focuses both on the policy process and the substance of public policy. A policy process focus would examine how both private and public interests are represented in the governmental policymaking process. Two of the most important means of representing such interests are via direct lobbying of elected and appointed governmental officials and through the communication of ideas and proposals in various forms of media.
With effect from February 2012, this programme will be offered in The Hague.
A substantive policy focus would examine the content of what government does: providing health care, protecting the environment, or defending against terrorism. With this focus, students may explore a variety of different public policies or specialise further in only one of the topics in which the institute offers more specialised classes, such as health policy or security policy.
