The MA programme in Philosophy is characterised by a firm integration of historical and systematic approaches in philosophy and an emphasis on studying primary philosophical texts. This constantly links both historical scholarship and current philosophical debates.
The programme offers three specialisations.
Entry requirements
- BA degree in Philosophy from a recognised university
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO-diploma
- Applicants are requested to enclose a writing sample. The text should be written in English, focus on a philosophical subject, and preferably consist of no more that 2000 words.
Students who have a BA in Philosophy from Leiden University do not have to apply for admission.
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
