The specialisation in Clinical Child and Adolescent Studies offers research-based insights into the nature, gravity and causes of child and adolescent problems, as well as into effective treatments and programmes. Research into the causes of and the possibilities for influencing problematic child-rearing situations presupposes a multiple risk model. Children’s development is the result of the interaction between a given child and his or her environment. It is important to map the risk and protective factors in the child and in his or her environment (family, school, peer group), as well as the ways in which these factors impact one another.
Career
After having completed the Master’s specialisation in Clinical Child and Adolescent Studies, you will be able to identify and diagnose developmental problems in children and adolescents, as well as design and carry out a treatment based on research results.
With the knowledge and skills you will have acquired, you will be able to apply for a variety of jobs:
- In education (for instance, school supervision departments, schools for special education)
- Clinical jobs (for instance, in a remedial teaching practice)
- In youth services
You can also become a researcher and in this way make a contribution to resolving the developmental problems of children and adolescents.
