Studying the New Testament and Early Christianity throws a very unique light upon the multicultural world of Late Antiquity. In this specialisation you combine in-depth textual and archaeological research on the world of the New Testament, emerging Christianity and the shaping of classical Judaism.

Entry requirements

  • A BA degree or equivalent in Religious Studies or Theology, with a substantial component in New Testament, or in another appropriate discipline, such as Classics or Ancient Philosophy, and with a good knowledge of Greek
  • The prime requirement is for a proven affinity with and ability for scholarly research. This may be demonstrated, for example, by an average mark of at least 7.5, and a grade for the BA thesis of 8 or higher.
  • Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
    This requirement does not apply if you have:
    • completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
    • an International Baccalaureate, or
    • a Dutch VWO diploma

Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
