The Master’s specialisation in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in Life Sciences. There are a number of different possibilities for research subjects: not only revealing molecular mechanisms that form the basis of diverse organisms and how they function in ecosystems, but also the application of this knowledge in biotechnology.
Career
This MSc track provides students with knowledge of all basic aspects of genetics and molecular and cellular biology of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Attention is paid to genetic, microbiological, cellular and physiological approaches to understand the functioning of uni- and multicellular organisms at molecular level. Training in functional genomics, cellular imaging, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics will provide essential knowledge and skills to apply these powerful techniques in the broad fields of biological and medical research. Particular attention is paid to the implications of these techniques for biotechnology and the understanding of the molecular basis of development and diseases of animals and plants. This master’s track is ideally suited as a basis for starting a career in experimental molecular-biological or biomedical research. As students are given the option to conduct a project at the interface of fundamental and applied science, this will also qualify them for positions in commercial companies.
