The Literature specialisation distinguishes itself from other MA programmes in the Netherlands by its intense collaboration with the MA programmes in Media Studies and the Research Master’s specialisation in Art History ; this joint teaching programme gives you the opportunity to acquire a valuable range of skills, both disciplinary and interdisciplinary, historical and theoretical. Based on the premise that the study of cultural objects and cultural practices is founded on a shared theoretical and methodological framework, this programme includes the study of media, art and literature.
Entry requirements
- Bachelor degree in Comparative Literature or in a specific Language and Culture (Dutch, English, French etc) from a recognized academic institute.
- The prime requirement is for a proven affinity with and ability for scholarly research. This may be demonstrated, for example, by an average mark of at least 7.5, and a grade for the BA thesis of 8 or higher.
- A demonstrated strong motivation to commence the Research Master (a letter to the admission committee should give a convincing indication of this).
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO-diploma
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
