In the Italian Language and Linguistics specialisation of the MA in Linguistics, you will study the Italian language from a typological perspective, as well as from a historical and sociolinguistic point of view. You will gain insight into the dialectal and regional variations and uses of Italian through our courses on both theoretical and applied linguistics, covering topics that include the use of Italian and of Italian dialects. While studying with our young and active staff, you will improve your command of the language, as the specialisation is Italian-spoken.
Entry requirements
- BA (or equivalent) in Italian Language and Culture
- Thorough proficiency in Italian: CEFR; listening: C1; reading: C1; oral interaction: B2; oral production: B2; writing: B2
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO diploma
Students who have a BA in Italian Language and Culture from Leiden University do not have to apply for admission.
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
