The department’s research is particularly strong in the field of historical linguistics. Run jointly by Leiden University’s Department of German, the University of Amsterdam and the University of Utrecht, you will be able to take advantage of a broad range of specialised courses on the programme, and will benefit from each university’s specific teaching and research methods.

Pre-master’s

Students with a bachelor’s degree in German Language and Culture from a College of Education (lerarenopleiding) may apply for the pre-master’s programme. This one-year programme is taught in German.
