Career

With a Master’s in German Language and Culture you will have a broad-range of career choices open to you. Alumni have found employment in the fields of trade and export, in communication departments in (international) companies, as policy advisors, translators or in libraries.

For those who want to pursue a research- or academic-based career, you can either move onto the research-focussed MA in Linguistics (Research) or the MA in Study of Art and Literature (Research), which are precursors to PhD training, or seek an academic position within a Department of German.

If you are interested in a career in teaching, you can follow a teacher-training MA at the ICLON Graduate School of Education once you have graduated from the master’s programme. You have to speak fluent Dutch to follow the course, and there are some additional entry requirements. For further details, see the ‘Lerarenopleiding Duits’ on this website.
