The European Union is an increasingly complex and fascinating political and socio-economic landscape. The one-year MA in European Union Studies covers the EU’s broad geographical sweep from an interdisciplinary perspective.
On this programme you will be led by academic staff internationally renowned in their fields, many of whom can draw upon their practical experience in politics, government, advisory bodies and think tanks. They are therefore fully equipped to give you an insider’s viewpoint on the machinations of the EU’s governing bodies and day-to-day operations.
Entry requirements
Applicants can be admitted to the specialisation in European Union Studies who:
- hold a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, the humanities, law, or economics;
- demonstrate a clear affinity with and specific knowledge of International Relations, specifically in the area of European Union Studies;
- have completed course components with a minimum of 30 EC in the field of contemporary European Studies, for example the Leiden University minor programme in European Union Studies
- have earned the degree of bachelor at an academic university, equivalent to a Dutch university bachelor’s degree, or can demonstrate that they meet the requirements for such a degree, including the General Academic Skills listed here;
- are sufficiently proficient in written and spoken English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia,
or if you hold - an International Baccalaureate
- a Dutch VWO diploma
- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia,
The Board of Examiners can advise or oblige students to take on additional reading in preparation for specific optional courses, depending on the student’s prior training and background.
