You also have the option to focus on Philology: the study of medieval and early-modern texts and text media in their cultural-historical context. This involves analysing manuscripts, (digitally) unravelling linguistic phenomena such as the meaning of specific words or phrases, exploring themes in Anglo-Saxon heroic poetry and Arthurian romances, and even studying politeness conventions in eighteenth-century letter collections.

A whole host of different seminars are open to you. You can attend lectures on subjects as diverse as American writing, Medieval and (Early) Modern texts in English, ‘popular’ culture (fantasy, horror), reception of the classics, Beowulf, Chaucer, Milton, Shakespeare and Anglo-American films.
