The Master’s in Education and Child Studies offers six specialisations in sub-disciplines of education and child studies. In all specialisations advancing the academic training of the students is of central importance.

The instruction focuses on:
- Substantial introduction in domain-relevant content, knowledge and strategies;
- The motivation for, and active performance of scientific research to obtain new knowledge, skills and insights in a specific branch of Education and Child Studies;
- Scientifically grounded reflection or actions, applying:
- general/specific scientific methods or techniques;
- scientific argumentation, that is to say, well thought-through sharpening or updating of professional practice on the basis of the results of scientific research.
Achievement levels
A Master in Education and Child Studies:
- is able to analyse and conceptualise questions and problems in the area of the pedagogic sciences that the master’s programme covers, and report on them orally to colleagues and in written form for professional periodicals;
- is able to organise, carry out and report on pedagogic research in the area;
- is able to understand and evaluate high-level pedagogic research and professional literature in the field and for this purpose possesses the methodological and technical research skills that are customary in the pedagogic sciences in general, and in the area in particular;
- is able to formulate relevant strategies and alternative courses of action to solve a professional problem;
- possesses sufficient knowledge and skills in the field to:
- either be accepted for a research programme (doctoral course) in the pedagogic sciences, or to be able to practise a profession in a field in which pedagogic scientists can be employed,
- or be admitted to a post-academic professional training programme.
