Specialisations

The master’s in Computer Science is offered by the The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science. The Institute has a strong tradition in combining a theoretical, experimental and applied approach to the field of expertise. This reflects in the research profile of the institute and the education programme it offers.
The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science is a partner in the Lorentz Center, an international research centre for Astronomy, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Bio Sciences. The centre has numerous international collaborations and maintains excellent contacts with other Dutch university research groups, as well as Dutch industry.

Leiden University offers five different specialisations in the MSc programme in Computer Science.

Three specialisations are dedicated to the specialisations of the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science:

  1. Core Computer Technologies
  2. Computer Science Theory and Advanced Technologies
  3. Bioinformatics

The other two specialisations are more broadly oriented, and combine at least one year of the computer science curriculum with training in which specific career opportunities in science-related professions can be explored:

  1. Computer Science and Science-Based Business.
  2. Computer Science and Science Communication and Society
