The master’s track in Science Communication and Society offers students the opportunity to combine previous research training with programmes in different aspects of science communication, such as journalism, new media, museology and information visualisation. The track consists of two parts: the first master’s year is given in English and focuses Computer Science. In the second master’s year the student follows the Dutch-language communication element.

Entry requirements

  • A BSc degree Computer Science or a BSc degree with a major in Computer Science from Leiden University. Students holding such degree will directly be admitted to the programme.
  • For all other candidates, the Admission Committee will determine the equivalence of their previous training with an aforementioned Bachelor of Science degree. The choice of courses in the Master of Science programme may be limited by the need to adapt the programme to the present knowledge of the candidate.
  • Applicants with a higher professional education (hbo) degree in a related field of science are eligible to be admitted to the master’s programme. For more information, please contact the study adviser.
  • Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230, evidenced by appropriate test.
    This requirement does not apply if you have:
    • completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
    • an International Baccalaureate
  • The admission process may include an interview by the Admissions Committee
