Clinical psychology is about the assessment and treatment of mental disorders. The Clinical Psychology specialisation of the professional Master’s Programme in Psychology is a one-year programme that focuses both on in-depth study of theory and on the acquisition of professional and research skills.

Career

The objective of the specialisation is to equip you with advanced training in research methods and professional skills that prepare you both for a career involving psychological research as well as for the application of scientific knowledge and methods in various professional settings.
Professionals with an MSc degree in Psychology, specialisation Clinical Psychology, are employed in academic professions in:

  1. Various professional environments
    • ambulatory mental health care
    • medical hospitals
    • nursing homes
    • psychiatric hospitals and
    • forensic clinics
  2. General research positions and academic policy-making positions
    • health care and social assistance
    • psychological advice organisations
    • consultancy
    • research companies and laboratories both in the private and the public sector

Post-Master’s training and PhD
The Master’s specialisation in Clinical Psychology prepares students for post-master’s clinical training (GZ-psycholoog and Psychotherapist) and for post-master’s scientific training (PhD). Admission to either of these training programmes is not automatic, as these are salaried positions in the Netherlands and there is competition for admission. However, the clinical and research skills acquired in the Clinical master’s programme will be broadly applicable and valuable for research assistantships and a range of academic, government, industrial and health-related settings.
