Besides the classical Greek and Latin languages, the range of subjects you can study in the MA in Classics includes studies on Ancient History, Ancient Philosophy, Papyrology and Renaissance Latin. The academic staff responsible for these courses are internationally renowned for their research work. The result is a master’s programme which provides you with a comprehensive view of the classical world, while defining the significance it still has for modern society.
This programme qualifies you for the Teacher-training programme in Classics.
Entry requirements
You should have a BA degree in Classics obtained from a university in the Netherlands, or a comparable qualification obtained from a university outside the Netherlands.
If you are a student with an international degree, please show clearly on your application form how much original ancient Greek and Latin you have done (indicate for example the number of pages read, whether you studied original texts or translations, and specify the contents of the various subjects).
- Thorough proficiency in English: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570 / 230 / 88-90 evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO-diploma.
Students who have a BA in Classics from Leiden University do not have to apply for admission.
HBO
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
