Town and Country is a specialisation of the Research Master’s in Archaeology. The research master’s is an advanced two-year postgraduate programme with an even higher research component than the regular master’s programme and excellent scope for individual student initiative.

Research/PhD

The research projects mainly deal with the protohistoric and historic periods, but also with the study of prehistoric periods in the Mediterranean and the Near East. The whole group focuses its teaching and research on the theme of the Archaeology of Town and Country in the Mediterranean Lands and the Near East (including Egypt), which forms the basis for the research master’s courses.

“What attracted me in the Research Master’s and in the Town & Country track in particular is the opportunity to incorporate the subject of your preference in a good framework and the autonomy to develop your own research.”

“I believe that for a student who is interested in academic research, the Research Master’s in Archaeology combines a perfect arrangement to work with theories at a high level with the unique chance to test these on the human past.

It is not just a desk job: if you wish for a more adventurous and practical element in your studies there is the possibility to go into the field and explore. Track leaders and teachers provide the freedom to go to other universities, international conferences and workshops or to explore other disciplines within the university to broaden your academic perspective and make your final thesis an excellent and multidisciplinary piece of work.”
