Near Eastern Archaeology comprises the Archaeology of the Levant, Palestine, Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Western Iran as well as Egypt. Archaeology of the Near East is a major part of Leiden University’s teaching and research commitment.

Entry requirements

  • BA degree (or equivalent) in Archaeology or relevant discipline. Additional specific requirements may apply per specialisation area: contact the study advisor for more information.
  • For international students: proof of English Proficiency IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570/230/88-90 evidenced by an apprioriate test

The English proficiency requirement does not apply if you have:

  • completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
  • an International Baccalaureate.

Students with a higher professional education (HBO) diploma in Archaeology from Saxxion Next in Deventer who followed the pre-master’s programme can be admitted to the master’s programme.
