Prehistory of Europe

Prehistory of Europe is a one-year MA-specialisation at the internationally renowned Archaeology Faculty of Leiden University. The programme focuses on a range of aspects of Prehistoric farming communities, from the Neolithic to the Iron Age.

Choose Prehistory of Europe at Leiden University

  • Gain in-depth knowledge about the archaeology of prehistoric farming communities.
  • Learn about the ways in which people constructed their living environment in relation to other communities, their ancestors, the supernatural and the physical landscape.
  • Explore issues such as ancestral landscapes, burial analysis, exchange, world systems and the biography of landscapes.
  • Get challenged to develop your own informed opinion on these topics by writing papers, participating in discussions, and conducting research.
  • Engage in a period of fieldwork related to one of our research projects. Alternatively, you may also choose to work as an intern in a museum or an institution. This will provide you with valuable hands-on experience and will expand your network.
  • Study at a faculty that ranks in the top ten worldwide in academic reputation and research impact (March 2017 QS World University Ranking by subject).
