Admission Procedure Film and Photographic Studies
Admission procedure for students with non-Dutch nationality and/or an international diploma
For general information on application for international students please see mastersinleiden.nl
1. Send an application to the Admisions Office. See their website for online application.
They will do a credentials evaluation and forward the file to the master’s in Photographic Studies programme.
Please note that you must complete this part of the process at the latest before 1 April. Please also note that in the case of the Photographic Studies the deadline is different from the one indicated by the Admissions Office.
2. Depending on the quality of your application materials (prior academic education, CV, motivation, English language skills, etc), the Admissions Committee will decide whether you are admissible and/or whether you are eligible to take part in the programme’s entry exam.
3. If you are eligible to take part in the programme’s entry exam, you will receive a link and password to our server where you will find the documents and illustrations for two assignments. You are required:
- To write an essay,
- To compose a series of photographic images together with an explanation in writing.
Once your assignments have been received, they will be combined with the dossier the department will receive from the Admissions Office. This dossier will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
Upon completion of this review process:
- you may be admissible as such;
- you may be invited for a personal interview. This interview represents a continuation of the application process (see further below);
- you are not invited for a personal, because your application has been rejected for this year.
The last entry exams will take place in August.
5. All eligible applicants for the MA in Photographic Studies should, in principle, present their work in person to an Admissions Committee of the department. This means you may be required to travel to the Netherlands to attend an interview. Depending on your application, however, alternative arrangements (i.e. phone interviews, etc.) may be offered.
6. Every student needs good proficiency in English, to be demonstrated by IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English.
