VVD member of the Dutch Lower House in discussion with students master European Law

VVD member of the Dutch Lower House and MEP of the year 2010 (European Voice) Jeanine Hennis-Plassschaert discussed on Monday 27 February with students from the regular master European Law.

Rather than giving a traditional lecture, Ms Hennis-Plasschaert engaged in a discussion with the students about several important European topics. The enlargement of the Union was extensively discussed as well as the Dutch critique on the functioning of the EU. Hennis-Plasschaert highlighted the differences in role between a European and a national parliamentarian. In addition, she entered into discussion with the students on the SWIFT agreement (the exchange of bank details with the US) given the important role she played in negotiations.

This lecture was held in the LLM monthly lecture series. The Europa Institute invites professionals who deal on a daily basis with European law to the faculty in order to connect the European studies of the students with legal practice. The lecture of Ms Hennis-Plasschaert was successful in bringing European practice in the classroom.
