Higher tuition fee for second master's degree
Students who have already completed a master’s programme in the Netherlands pay a higher tuition fee for their second master’s:
| 2011-2012 | 2012-2013 | |
| second master’s in humanities, law or social sciences | € 14.650 | € 13.600 |
| second master’s in the field of science or in Biomedical Sciences |
€ 18.100 | € 17.200 |
| second master’s in Medicine | € 19.700 | € 20.200 |
Some students are exempted from this higher fee, and for some Leiden University students a transitional arrangement sometimes applies. For more information please see the international students website. Dutch and EU/EEA/Swiss/Surinamese students are exempted from this higher fee if:
- the second master’s is a master’s programme in Medicine, provided the first master’s was not a health care master’s programme.
- the second master’s is a teacher-training programme.
Please note: for some master’s you pay a higher tuition fee because the programmes are not subsidised by the government.
All students pay this higher fee, regardless of whether they have already completed a Dutch master’s programme. The programmes in question are:
- International Relations and Diplomacy
- Air and Space Law (Advanced)
- European Business Law (Advanced)
- International Tax Law (Advanced)
- Public International Law (Advanced)
- Vitality and Ageing
