Actor Jan Decleir is taught Old English by Leiden prof
Saint Boniface, the missionary killed in 754 at Dokkum (Friesland, The Netherlands), was born in Wessex (Great-Britain). He spoke Old English and therefore so does actor Jan Decleir, portraying the saint in the new Dutch movie De Schaduw van Bonifatius [Boniface’s shadow]. The translation of the dialogues into Old English and Old Frisian was done by Leiden University professor dr. Bremmer.
Bremmer – senior lecturer of English Philology and professor extraordinary of Frisian – was asked to read the script by the scriptwriter and to make authentic improvements to the texts where possible.
