Tuition fees
Tuition fees on this website are per year and subject to annual change.
See programme description for exact fees. All fees mentioned in the programme descriptions are full-time rates.
Students who have already completed a master’s programme pay a higher tuition fee for their second master’s.
Home fee for Dutch and EU/EEA/Swiss/Surinamese students
Due to EU regulations, students from the EU (European Union) and EEA (European Economic Area), are entitled to pay the same tuition fees as Dutch students (=home fee). Home fee only applies to those programmes which have been approved for government funding by the Dutch Ministry of Education, and only to EU/EEA and Swiss students. Different fees apply to non-EU students and to programmes which are not government funded. Please see programme descriptions for exact fees.
- Tuition fee for 2011-2012: € 1713,-
- Tuition fee for 2012-2013: € 1771,-
Fees for international students who are not from the EU/EEA, Switzerland or Surinam
The tuition fees for non-EU/EEA/Swiss students are determined each year by Leiden University. Fees may vary from programme to programme, and are given in the programme descriptions. All fees given are full-time fees.
A note on part-time study
As full-time study is a requirement for obtaining an MVV or a residence permit for the purpose of study, international students who are not from the EU/EEA or Switzerland are usually not allowed to study part-time. Please contact the Admissions Office for information on part-time tuition fees if you are interested in part-time study and are a non-EU student but have been granted residency on another ground than study.
Method of Payment
All International Students who have been accepted for a master’s degree programme will receive an Acceptance Letter and detailed information on how to pay the tuition fees well before the start of the programme.
All students who are admitted to any of the non-government funded programmes (International Relations and Diplomacy or one of the Master of Advanced Legal Studies Programmes) should observe the payment details as mentioned below under Other International Programmes.
Dutch Students
Students who both have Dutch Nationality and who have been admitted on the basis of a Dutch diploma are referred to the information on the website in Dutch Masters in Leiden.
Other EU/EEA and Swiss students
EU/EEA and Swiss students who have been admitted to a government-funded “home-fee” programme, can choose to pay before or after arrival:
- Before arrival, via international bank transfer to Student Administration, Leiden University.
Rabobank
International Bank Account Reference Code (IBANcode)
NL71RABO0103257217
Bank Account: 10.32.57.217
Please note that all bank charges (relating to the transfer of money to Leiden University) are to be paid by the applicant.
- EU/EEA and Swiss students can also choose to arrange payment (and registration) directly with the Leiden University Student Administration, provided that they have a Dutch bank account (no savings account). Home-fee paying EU/EEA and Swiss students can authorise the Leiden University Student Administration to withdraw the fees from his or her account in eight instalments. This is done by signing a standing order form which can be obtained from the student administration after arrival.
Other International Students
International students who are not from one of the EU/EEA countries or from Switzerland, should pay the full tuition fees before arrival or enter into an instalment agreement with the Leiden University Ficancial Service Centre.
