The application fee is €100 (excluding bank charges) and covers a maximum of 3 applications per academic year. Please note that we can only process your application after the application fee has been received. As soon as the application fee has been received, you will receive an acknowledgment by e-mail.
The following students do not have to pay the application fee:
If you have previously been admitted to a degree programme at Leiden university, but decided to defer your studies until a later date, you need not re-apply or pay another application fee. Instead you can simply request an updated ‘decision on admission’ from your International Programmes Officer at the Admissions Office. This ruling does not apply if you wish to change your choice of study programme or specialty. In this case a new application and application fee are required.
Application fees can be paid in two ways:
1. By bank transfer to Leiden University’s bank account:
Rabobank Leiden

Bank Account: 1606.32.285
Made payable to: Leiden University Finance B.V., Leiden, The Netherlands
Please mention your name, online application student ID number and the words ‘application fee’ in the transfer. Any bank charges incurred are the responsibility of the applicant.
2. By online credit card payment via Paylogic
Tuition fees on this website are per year and subject to annual change.
See programme description for exact fees. All fees mentioned in the programme descriptions are full-time rates.
Students who have already completed a master’s programme pay a higher tuition fee for their second master’s.
Due to EU regulations, students from the EU (European Union) and EEA (European Economic Area), are entitled to pay the same tuition fees as Dutch students (=home fee). Home fee only applies to those programmes which have been approved for government funding by the Dutch Ministry of Education, and only to EU/EEA and Swiss students. Different fees apply to non-EU students and to programmes which are not government funded. Please see programme descriptions for exact fees.
The tuition fees for non-EU/EEA/Swiss students are determined each year by Leiden University. Fees may vary from programme to programme, and are given in the programme descriptions. All fees given are full-time fees.
A note on part-time study
As full-time study is a requirement for obtaining a visa or a residence permit for the purpose of study, international students who are not from the EU/EEA or Switzerland are usually not allowed to study part-time. Please contact the Admissions Office for information on part-time tuition fees if you are interested in part-time study and are a non-EU student but have been granted residency on another ground than study.
All International Students who have been accepted for a master’s degree programme will receive detailed information on how to pay the tuition fees well before the start of the programme.
All students who are admitted to any of the non-government funded programmes (i.e. International Relations and Diplomacy, Vitality and Ageing, or one of the Master of Advanced Legal Studies programmes) should observe the payment details as mentioned below under Other International Students.
Students who both have Dutch Nationality and who have been admitted on the basis of a Dutch diploma are referred to the information on the website in Dutch Masters in Leiden.
EU/EEA and Swiss students who have been admitted to a government-funded “home-fee” programme, can choose to pay before or after arrival:
International students who are not from one of the EU/EEA countries or from Switzerland, and all students following a non-government funded programme, will receive a tuition fee invoice containing payment instructions and deadlines prior to the start of their study programme. Payment can be made in full or alternatively an instalment agreement can be requested from Leiden University Financial Service Centre.
Fees can be paid by credit card (Master Card, American Express or Visa) or by international bank transfer to:

Please note the new bank account number and remember to state your application number in the transfer.
For credit card payments there is a 5% administration charge.
NOTE: Leiden University requires all bank charges (relating to the transfer of money to Leiden University) to be paid by the applicant. Therefore the applicant should instruct his/her Bank to transfer the relevant amount to the Leiden University account, ensuring that the payment of all charges for the transfer will be paid from his/her account. (i.e. the amount to be transferred should be the amount of the tuition fee, plus all applicable bank charges)
If you are paying for someone else, please state clearly on your transfer form the name of the applicant and the programme.
Students can also choose to enter into an instalment agreement with the Financial Service Centre, whereby payment is made in two or four parts. The first instalment must be paid before 1 September or February 1 respectively.
